Awful Calamity Canvas
Still on record as the deadliest natural disaster in this nation’s history, the Great Storm of 1900 was an unimaginable catastrophe that is truly incomprehensible to those of us living today. In the storm’s horrible aftermath, however, something of its terror was captured in the imagination of a now-unknown artist with Kurz & Allison in Chicago, who created this haunting line drawing titled “Galveston’s Awful Calamity – Gulf Tidal Wave, September 8th 1900.”
In this lightweight, high-quality stretched-canvas print, this poignant, very detailed image is reproduced at approximately the original size of the historic lithograph. This beautiful, bittersweet piece should grace a prominent wall in every Galvestonian’s home.
