Notes:
What does a Memphis hotel have to do with a club in Galveston in 1942? Plenty.

The Balinese Room supper club in the luxurious Hotel Claridge was the inspiration for its later namesake in Galveston. Enamored of the Memphis hotel’s beautiful club and impressed by its talented designer, Virgil Quadri, Sam Maceo hired the Chicago-based artist to create the brothers’ fourth and final club on the 21st Street pier. It was Quadri who suggested to the Maceos that this new supper club also be named the Balinese Room. Quadri later called it his masterpiece.
